Cantabile soprano and longtime Minnesotan Carol Nielsen came to Colorado for the mountains five years ago. Carol took early retirement from a career in marketing at Target Corporation where she played a lead role in bringing Target stores into urban areas.
Carol cherishes her Norwegian roots and can speak both Norwegian and Swedish. Several of her uncles in Oslo were active in the Norwegian resistance during World War II. Her father came to the U.S. at the age of 21, landing a job as chauffeur and butler at the Norwegian embassy in Washington, D.C. Carol inherited her love of singing and passion for music from her father, a tenor, and her mother, an accomplished pianist.
Carol’s pet peeves are indecisiveness and gossip. She enjoys hiking, camping and skiing and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. She is also a member of the Urban Land Institute.
Carol is a seasoned traveler and has visited all 50 states. We’re happy she decided to stay put in Colorado. Carol joined Cantabile two seasons ago and in that time we’ve already performed one of her favorite choral pieces, Lux Arumque by Eric Whitacre. Her other favorites are Fauré’s Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.
