We believe strongly that the arts aren't somehow an 'extra' part of our national life, but instead we feel that the arts are at the heart of our national life. It is through our music, our literature, our art, drama and dance that we tell the story of our past and we express our hopes for the future. Our artists challenge our assumptions in ways that many cannot and do not. They expand our understandings, and push us to view our world in new and very unexpected ways.
Boulder's Cantabile Singers look back on long history
The beginnings of the Cantabile Singers lie so far back in history that they're shrouded in myth.
Only one thing seems absolutely certain about the 38-voice ensemble: it developed out of the earlier St. Cecilia Singers, which came into being around 1978.
"There were several of us who wanted to sing in a small group," says Doug Burger, a St. Cecilia founder still active in Cantabile. "We got together in homes and read through things. It was great fun."
