In times of emotional highs and lows, we all seek places of comfort and refuge. Whether they be physical places, nostalgic memories from our past, or a steadfast solitude within, we return to these places to find solace, calm, and joy. Cantabile’s first concert of this season will explore music that brings us to those places. With a program that pays tribute to the places that are sacred, personal, and nostalgic, to real locations of natural beauty and to places that define our pasts and present, Cantabile hopes you will join us for a night of stirring artistry. The concert will feature John Corigliano’s Fern Hill that sets Dylan Thomas’s evocative text of a beautiful childhood nearly forgotten for choir, mezzo soprano solo, strings and and piano.
Along with Cantabile’s own phenomenal Stella Pradeau on the piano, Cantabile is thrilled to be joined by the acclaimed Altius Quartet to play Corigliano’s Fern Hill as well as a selection of their own. This varied program will also include works by Hildegard von Bingen, Claudio Monteverdi, Johannes Brahms, and twenty-first century composers Joan Szymko, Dale Trumbore, Ola Gjeilo, and Shawn Kirchner. Come join us for a program that asks you to remember and consider the places we return to throughout our lives.
